Down to Erf - '98 EP

One of my favorite rap EPs. Down to Erf only had this one release before it's main rapper Mathematik went solo. Jazz rap with a real chilled out flow.

Will Cullen Hart - Silver

Hart buried a microphone in the ground and recorded what was there. In theory, the music is built around the sounds of ants, worms, and other things crawling around in the ground. In practice, many of the noises likely emanated from passing diesel trucks. An hour of ulta-low, sub bass frequencies.

Black Uhuru

My favorite reggae band. Lots of sample usage infused with regular instruments. Red is one of the most consistently good albums I've heard so far

Black Uhuru - Red

Prince Rama - Trust now

Prince Rama, a 3-piece psychedelic band from New York. Raised in a Hare Krishna comune and it shows. Very hipster-core, very krishna-core.

Heart, Lungs, Bones

This weeks theme is sounds from the human body.

Aube

Akifumi Nakajima (Aube) is a Japanese noise musician who, since the late 1980's, has made music that is composed out of a single source. These include heart beats, brain waves, lungs breathing, taps turning on and off and so forth.

The album Cardiac Strain has the recurring theme and sample of the heart beat. It is one of his heaviest and loudest releases.

The album Sigh in Depressive Blue is a very different album to Cardiac Strain. There is much less overlapping distortion, and clearer sound effects, almost verging on ambient rather than solid noise. The sample of the sound of lungs breathing is more difficult to pinpoint than that of the heart beat.

Zero Kama

Zero Kama (Michael DeWit)is a Dutch dark ambient musician based in Austria. His most prominent release 1984's The Secret Eye of L.A.Y.L.A.H.

All instruments on this album are made from human bones forged by Zero Kama himself

This is a highly ritualistic album, with nearly every song containing various amounts of shamanistic drumming followed by long periods of ambient electronic drones. dem bones
